THE UN SECRETARY-GENERAL, AND President of the World Bank VISIT UGANDA

HON. SAM K. KUTESA ADDRESSES THE PRESS ON THE OUTCOME OF THE RECENT AU SUMMIT HELD IN ADDIS ABABA,

Addressing the press  on 12th Feb 2013  on the outcome of the recent AU summit held in Addis Ababa, Foreign Affairs Minister  Hon. Sam Kutesa  informed them that Uganda had submitted to  the African Union (AU) its candidature for the post of President of the UN General Assembly, a position if acquired will allow it greater influence on the international scene.

Leaders of International Conference on the Great Lakes Region and Southern African Development Community sign Peace, deal

SADC and  ICGLR leaders signed a UN-brokered accord which aims to bring peace to the troubled eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The agreement was signed on 3rd Sunday 2013, at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa. The 12 signing countries are from the Great Lakes region and Southern Africa. The deal was signed in the presence of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. Leaders from the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) had originally been expected to sign the deal on January 29 on the sidelines of the African Union summit but was called off at the last minute.  No representatives of rebel groups attended the signing in Addis Ababa.

Ministers sign the East African Community Protocol on Peace and Security in Dar-es-Salaam February 2013

The East African Community (EAC) is the regional intergovernmental organisation of the Republics of Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, the United Republic of Tanzania, and the Republic of Uganda, with its headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.
In furtherance of the spirit of cooperation in East Africa, member States signed a Protocol on peace and security with the main objective of promoting peace, security and stability within the community and good neighbourliness among the partner States. In this regard, member States undertook to:

EU ENVOY SUMMONED OVER MEDIA STATEMENT

The Head of the European  Union Delegation in Uganda,  H.E Ambassador Roberto Ridolfi, was summoned by the Foreign Affairs Ministry over the media statements in which he was alleged to have criticized President Yoweri Museveni over failure to address corruption and other items in his State of the Nation Address.

The Ethiopian Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Ambassador Degefe Bula has today, Friday 14th June 2013, paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Okello Oryem, Uganda’s Minister of State for International Affairs. Ambassador Bula, on behalf of the Ethiopian government, extended his appreciation to H.E. President Yoweri Museveni for his statement of solidarity regarding Ethiopia’s hydro-power project on the Blue Nile.

UGANDA HOSTS GENDER POLICY FORMULATION WORKSHOP FOR SOMALIA

A workshop for the formulation of a draft national Gender Policy for Somalia has opened in the capital Kampala. It is organised by AMISOM as one of the components in rebuilding Somalia and will run from 12th- 15th June 2013 at Golf Course Hotel.

President Museveni Addresses East African Legislative Assembly

 

President Y. K. Museveni addresses the EALA  in Kampala

President Museveni as the current Chairman of the East African Heads of state said that borders are not rational although they are recognized and therefore should not be  a source of quarrels.
He was addressing the 6th Meeting of the 1st Session of the 3rd East African Legislative Assembly at parliamentary chambers in Kampala.

President Museveni said that undeveloped human resource and lack of an integrated regional market are some of the bottlenecks blocking Africa’s growth.

He urged EALA members to step up sensitization campaigns for a faster integration process. President Museveni emphasized the need to develop infrastructure in areas of railways, roads and electricity and hoped that foreign investors would be attracted to invest in these areas for mutual benefit.

The assembly was also addressed by the Ugandan speaker of parliament Rt. Hon. Rabecca Kadaga who also called for faster integration of EAC which would lead to a bigger market for goods and services.
She also encouraged EALA to work towards removal of non tariff barriers for the good of trade in the region.
