Rt. Hon. Rugunda Leads Uganda's Delegation to the Global Business Forum in Dubai

The former Prime Minister and Special Envoy of H.E. The President, Rt. Hon. Ruhakana Rugunda is   leading Uganda's delegation to the Global Business Forum (GBF) convened in Dubai, UAE's Business Hub. The GBF was organized by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce.

The delegation included: Minister of Tourism and Wildlife Hon. Tom Butime; the Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Frank Tumwebaze; the Minister of State for Trade, Hon. Harriet Ntabazi; the Minister of State for Privatization and Investment Hon. Evelyn Anite; the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Bagiire Vincent Waiswa; Uganda's Ambassador to the UAE, H.E. Zaake Kibedi; the CEO of UTB, Ms. Lilly Ajarova and Senior Officials of Government.

The Global Business Forum is meeting at an opportune moment when the world is beginning to cope with the challenges imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, that have seriously impacted the economies.

The GBF started its two days discussions Wednesday morning under three themes: 

During the Wednesday session on "Partnerships for Prosperity", DB World Group of UAE announced its commitment to invest upto US$1.7 billion in the renovation and upgrading of ports and other infrastructure to ease the movement of goods and services especially in landlocked countries in Africa. 
DP World UAE has already made substantial infrastructure investments in Egypt, Mozambique, Djibouti, Rwanda, Egypt and Senegal.

DB World's preconditions for investment include business friendly laws and regulations, projects with promising growth trajectories, transparent systems, fast decision making, educated manpower and application of technology.

The GBF was also addressed by President Felix Tshisekedi of the DRC, who called for financial and technical collaboration to unlock Africa's potential in agricultural, forest, mineral and human resource endowments on the continent, and thus tap into the potential of the recently launched Africa Continental Free Trade Area.
