Special Representative of President XI Jinping Visits Uganda

Hon Kutesa Welcomes H.E Yang Jiechi to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kampala

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon. Sam K. Kutesa held discussions with the visiting Chinese Delegation led by H.E. Yang Jiechi, Special Representative of President XI Jinping, President of The People's Republic of China.

Hon. Kutesa warmly welcomed the Guests to Uganda, noting that H.E. Yang Jiechi's second visit to Uganda in a year is a vivid sign of the warm, cordial and growing relations between the two countries which today has attained the status of a Comprehensive Cooperative Partnership.

He thanked H.E. President XI Jinping, the Government and people of China for the Congratulatory message sent to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the NRM Government and people of Uganda upon the resounding victory in the recently concluded Presidential, Parliamentary and Local elections.

Hon. Kutesa further thanked the Government of China for the multiple development projects in the country and for increased trade between the two countries. These projects include: The Entebbe Express Way; The Expansion of Entebbe International Airport; Karuma and Isimba Hydro-power projects; the Industrial parks; the Sukulu Phosphate Plant; the Petroleum Roads; and various other forms of assistance to combat Covid-19 and the Tsetse flies invasion.

H. E. Yang Jiechi emphasized China's commitment to strengthen strategic cooperation with Uganda in the political, economic, trade and cultural fields. He happily acknowledged the growing trade volumes between the two countries and promised that China will buy more products from Uganda to offset any imbalances.

He announced additional 140 Million RMB (Yuan) financial support to the agreed projects; 55,000 Covid-19 Testing kits; 300,000 vaccines against Covid-19; US$2 million to combat hunger, and to speed up consideration of BASA agreement to pave way for Uganda Airlines flights to Chinese cities.

The meeting was also attended by Chinese Government Ministers, the Chinese Ambassador to Uganda and Staff of the Embassy.

Uganda's delegation included: Hon. Katumba Wamala, Minister of Works and Transport; Hon. Vincent Sempijja, Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries; Hon. Okello -Oryem, MS/MOFA/IC; Hon. Ajedri, MS/MFPED; Hon. Hamson Obua, MS/ MOE&S; Ambassador  Patrick Mugoya, PS/MOFA; Abassadors and Senior Officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
