Hon. Sam K. Kutesa, Minister of Foreign Affairs and H.E. Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed AlAttiyah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar today 8 July, 2014 held the Joint Press at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kampala.

Hon Kutesa   welcomed his colleague Minister and his delegation to Uganda, and in particular to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and formed that H.E Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Alattiyah is in Uganda on a two-day working visit, as part of his tour of the region.  He also informed that on 7th July 2014, they held a fruitful meeting, during which they discussed issues of bilateral, regional and international interest to both countries.

He said that they agreed to enhance their cooperation on international issues of interest to both countries, especially as both Members of the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

He also observed that Qatar has played an important role in matters of regional peace and security, especially the Darfur Peace Process. As a Member of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region, Uganda supports Qatar's efforts in this regard, and will play a positive role towards finding peace in the entire region.

At a bilateral level, Hon. Kutesa welcomed the contribution Qatar is making in facilitating tourism and trade in Uganda, through daily flights to Entebbe by Qatar Airways. He requested his colleague to inform the people of Qatar of the huge investment potential in Uganda which Qatari companies and businessmen can exploit, especially in the areas of agriculture and agro-processing; and energy and infrastructure development.

On his part H.E Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed AlAttiyah said that following the election of Hon Kutesa  as President of the 69th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, he  sent his  congratulation to him and hailed Uganda on this achievement, and pledged Qatar's support during  Uganda's Presidency, especially in making progress on the priority issues. H.E Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed hailed the good relationship between Uganda and Qatar. While complementing the words of Hon. Kutesa, H.E Dr. Khalid said that in addition to the sectors that had been mentioned, Qatar is interested in the financial and agricultural sectors and promised to woo Qatar prospective investors to Uganda.
