Hon. Sam K. KUTESA, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda today morning met with H.E. Fikret Kerem ALP the Ambassador of Turkey to Uganda at the Ministry Headquarters. The Ambassador called on the Office of the Minister to discuss matters of Bilateral concern.

The Minister welcomed the Ambassador and his delegation and commended the efforts of the Ambassador in further strengthening the cordial and vibrant relations that exist between Uganda and Turkey.

Hon. Kutesa further appreciated the good working relations that Turkish Government representatives accorded him while he was the President of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 2014.

H.E. Fikret Kerem ALP, conveyed a message of gratitude to the Minister for taking time to meet the Delegation reiterating the vibrant and excellent bilateral relations between both countries.

The meeting further discussed ways of strengthening cooperation specifically in the Military and Justice sectors with Memoranda of Understandings (MoU's) that are ready for signing and consequent implementation in the respective fields enhancing Military cooperation and the extradition of criminal elements from either countries for prosecution 

In terms of boosting cooperation   in the Education sector, the Meeting was informed of the current  scholarships Programme in place which 50 placements / opportunities are offered to Ugandans for Bachelors, Masters, PhD and Post-doctoral in various disciplines. 
The meeting was also informed that Embassy is working with responsible Government MDA's in Turkey to double the scholarships.

The Ambassador further noted that, in terms of Bilateral Trade, Turkey is currently of the major Trading partners of Uganda and East
Africa at large. This was evidenced by the successful conclusion  of the Uganda - Turkey Business Forum  that was held from 17th - 19th June 2019 in Kampala and created an opportunity for  the business communities from Uganda and Turkey to share experiences, create business  networks, identify opportunities & challenges of on-going trade and investment between both countries.

The meeting was also informed that Turkey is to commence importation of Uganda’s beef and dairy, as well as support Uganda's fish farmers increase their production capacity.

The Minister noted with appreciation the progress that is being made by Turkish Business companies in Uganda, such as Turkish Airlines and Cargo, Leather and Shoe factories among others, and commended the Ambassador for his initiatives in promoting Uganda's investment opportunities to the potential investors in Turkey.

Hon. Kutesa in conclusion, reiterated and re-affirmed Uganda's commitment to work together with Turkey and all other key stakeholders to encourage Joint Investment ventures, and collaborations with for the benefit of the Republic of Uganda and Republic of Turkey.
