MOFA Bids farewell to the outgoing High Commissioner of South Africa to Uganda

Monday June 23, 2014, Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted H.E. Jonathan D. Qwelane to a luncheon to bid farewell as he prepares to leave Uganda.  Jonathan has been serving as South African High Commissioner to Uganda for four and a half years, bringing his tour of duty to an end.

In his farewell message, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs in charge of International Affairs, Hon. Okello Oryem commended the High Commissioner for the excellent working relationship he has had with Uganda and MOFA in particular. He thanked the government of South Africa for the excellent relations with Uganda government on matters of peace and security. He underscored the intervention the government of South Africa has made in maintaining Peace and Security in the region through SADC.

Hon Oryem also thanked the people of South Africa for investing in Uganda citing MTN, ESCom, Multichoice and others as examples, reiterating the significance of these investments in the Ugandan economy. He wished him and his family the best.

The function was attended by the Dean of Diplomatic Corps in Uganda His Excellency Patrick Edwards and the Dean of African group of Ambassadors H.E. Rtd Maj. Geoffrey L. Okanga as well as MOFA senior members of staff.
