Safety of Ugandans in The Republic of Southern Sudan

Thursday, 5th December 2013

The situation in The Republic of Southern Sudan remains volatile but \r\ncalm. The Airport roads and the borders with Uganda have now been \r\nopened. In addition, some businesses have resumed normal operations.

Buses that had been stopped from vying for business have now been allowed to move including those to Uganda.
\r\nUnfortunaely, there has so far been confirmation of one Ugandan dead as a\r\n result of the crossfire - Agu Rashid from Yumbe district. The Ministry \r\nof Foreign Affairs will help the family in facilitating the repatriation\r\n of the body to Uganda.
\r\nThe Government of Uganda is sending a task force of experts to the \r\nborder with Southern Sudan to ascertain and resolve problems faced by \r\nstranded traders.
\r\n
\r\nWhereas the situation has been contained by the Government of South \r\nSudan, Ugandans are appealed to take caution and abide by the security \r\nmeasures as they go about their businesses.
\r\n
\r\nThe Ministry of Foreign Affairs is monitoring the situation closely \r\nwhilst engaging its counterpart in Southern Sudan, as it continues to \r\nliaise with its Embassy in Juba.
