UGANDA FRONTS AU COMMISSIONER, ICC JUDGE

President Museveni meets President of Gabon Ali Bongo on arrival in Addis - 28th AU Ordinary Summit

President Yoweri Museveni has arrived in the Ethiopian Capital Addis Ababa for the 28th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU). The summit is being held at the AU Headquarters under the theme "Harnessing the Demographic Dividend through Investments in the Youth."

The President was received at the Bole International Airport by the Ethiopian Minister of Cabinet Affairs H.E Alemayo Tegenu, Uganda's Minister of Foreign Affairs Sam Kutesa, Uganda's Ambassador to Addis Ababa Mull Katende and Uganda's Defence Advisor Brig. Gen. Sam Kiwanuka among others.

On arrival, President Museveni shared a light moment with the President of Congo Brazzaville Denis Sassou Nguesso who had just flown in for the summit. He also met and had a chat with the President of Gabon Ali Bongo, who he congratulated upon his recent election victory.

The Heads of State and Government during their two - day sessions will elect the AUC leadership including the Chairperson of the African Union Commission and that of the Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission. 

Uganda is fronting Dr. Warren Naamara, currently UNAIDS Resident Representative in Tanzania for the post of Commissioner Social Affairs at the AU. Uganda has also submitted Justice Solome Balungi Bossa as its candidate for the post of judge of the International Criminal Court (ICC) whose elections will be held in December 2017. Justice Bossas' name was submitted to the AU Commission for an early consideration to allow her adequate time to campaign. Justice Bossa is competing with two other candidates from Lesotho and Benin.

Several leaders around the world have already arrived ahead of the summit on Monday including the Vice President of Cuba Salvador Mesa, the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Other leaders include the President of the African Union and Chad, Idriss Deby, Niger's Mahamadou Issoufou, Ghana's President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Seychelles President Danny Faure, Zambia President Edgar Lungu and Namibia President Hage Geingob.

INCOMING FINLAND AMBASSADOR TO UGANDA PRESENTS COPIES OF CREDENTIALS TO STATE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS, 17th-January 2018

Ambassador Fernandez Tarja Ovvokki the new Finland Ambassador to Uganda presented her working copies of credentials to the Minister of State for Foreign affairs Hon. Okello Oryem at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kampala on the 17 January 2018.
