Government is to engage European companies and agencies to facilitate sustainable investment, provide information sharing and broaden trade activities between European countries with Uganda.

While meeting a delegation from Finland, at his office in Kampala today, (November 29) the Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi said that although there exist imbalances between the two regions in terms of trade, efforts are being made to address the issue.

Ssekandi called upon the European business entities especially from the Nordic countries to make Uganda investment destination saying that will also facilitate Uganda products entry into the European markets.

The Vice President observed that many local products have been denied entry in the European markets due to failure to meet the necessary prerequisite conditions set by the European countries.

He also called on the European technical experts to work with Uganda technical teams of Ministry of trade, bureau of standards and the export promotion board to harmonize the condition to facilitate balanced trading activities between the two regions.

The group was following up an earlier August meeting they held with the Vice President on the sidelines on the Uganda investment forum held in the Finnish Capital of Helsinki, which exposed several Nordic companies to investment opportunities in Uganda.

The Vice President urged many Nordic countries to invest in Uganda arguing that besides being a gateway to the East African market and COMESA area, the country had investor friendly policies that would facilitate investment and return on their activities.

The group that was led by Uganda Ambassador to the Nordics Zaake Kibedi had CEOs and representatives of companies interested in energy generation, hospital equipment and education.
