Hon. Sam Kutesa Met with the United Kingdom's Hon. James Duddridge, Minister for Africa, the overseas Territories & the Caribbean

Hon. Sam Kutesa, met with Hon. James Duddridge on issues relating to the current regional situation in Uganda, Somalia, Burundi and South Sudan. It is well known that Burundi is currently experiencing political instability, which is largely attributed to the election of President Pierre Nkurunzinza for a third term in office. His critics argue that this was in violation of the country's constitution.

The EAC have since appointed President Yoweri Museveni to facilitate high level dialogue among the parties in Burundi with a view to finding solutions to all contentious issues. Hon. Kutesa revealed that he is planning a meeting with President Pierre Nkurunziza as a follow-up on the president's mediation efforts.

Hon. Kutesa also briefed his guest about the situation in Somalia which he described as fragile. He emphasized the building of Somalia National Army despite the challenges. He said elections this African country would be a major milestone in the peace building with support from AMISOM and UNDP.

On South Sudan, Hon. Kutesa revealed that Uganda supports implementation of peace agreement. He further said that his government, as member of IGAD, has been keen and instrumental on the conclusion of this Peace Agreement.

On his part, Hon. James Duddridge said that Britain is eager to get into business with Uganda where they can support Public- Private Partnership like export financing and credit guarantee e.g. in the construction of Hoima Airport. The two agreed to meet regularly to strengthen bilateral relationship between the two countries.
