Ministry of Foreign Affairs Recieves Equipment From The People's Republic of China

On 21st May 2015, the Ag. Minister of Foreign affairs Hon. Oryem Henry Okello received equipment from the Government of China which included executive motor vehicle van made in China and two screens made of Chinese Art to assist in building the Ministry's capacity. The equipment was handed over by H.E. Zhao Yali the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Uganda.

In his remarks the Minister thanked the Ambassador for the donation from China and underscored the excellent bilateral relations existing between the two countries, he further stated that following the visit of H.E. the President of Uganda to China the relations between the two countries have been at their best.

The Minister underscored the support that Uganda has received from the Government of China in a number of initiatives particularly in the Northern Corridor Integration Projects were a Chinese company was awarded the contract to construct the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) which will improve the economic situation and reduce the cost of doing business within the region.

He further highlighted a number of initiatives were the Chinese government has supported Uganda among which was the donation of the premises that house Ministry of Foreign, the building of the office of the President, Mandela stadium, the construction of Entebbe Express High which is being carried out by a Chinese company and also the extension of Entebbe International Airport to enable the airport cope with the increasing traffic.

The Minister ended by expressing his gratitude to the Chinese Government for the assistance and support it has extended to Uganda to enable the country improve its infrastructure and capacity building.

He also thanked the Ambassador for his outstanding support and intervention in the interest of Uganda.

The Ambassador informed the Minister that in the spirit of solidarity and capacity building of Ministry of Foreign Affairs the Government of China had donated a executive motor vehicle van made in China and two screens. On the recent visit of H.E the President of Uganda to China, the Ambassador noted that this was a historical moment after nine years when the President last made a state visit to China. He mentioned that the recent visit of H.E. the President of Uganda to China saw the signing of eight agreements and also a number of bilateral meetings were held with the President of the People¡¯s Republic of China as well as with other top Chinese government officials. He mentioned that some of the MoU's signed included the construction of Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), expansion of Entebbe International Airport among others and all the financial resources were to be provided by the Exim Bank of China.

He also pointed out that China has also been instrumental in the on going construction of two hydro power dams Karuma and Isimba.

The Ambassador concluded his remarks by stating that the ceremony today was a demonstration of the close friendship and cooperation between the two countries and the Government of China was grateful to provide financial assistance to Government of Uganda as Uganda is seen as a friend and partner.

He further emphasized that the government of China will continue to do more to help in the transformation of Uganda to meet the objectives of Vision 2040.
