Oil & Gas Convention 2015: Delivering Uganda's Potential in the Oil and Gas Sector

Interactive sessions with an array of distinguished panellists

The Oil & Gas Convention took place on 23rd April 2015 at the Kampala Serena Hotel, under the theme; "Accelerating Oil & Gas Production in East Africa: The Key Enablers". It was organised by the Uganda Chamber of Mines and Petroleum and sponsored by Total E&P Uganda, Zakhem International Construction Ltd, Standard Chartered Bank, Tullow Uganda Ltd, and Cnooc.

Hon. Eng. Irene Muloni, the Minister of Energy & Mineral Development and Hon. Oryem Okello; Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Who could not make it for the Opening Ceremony were represented by Ernest Rubondo of Ministry of Energy & Mineral Development, and Amb. James Mugume, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who delivered their speeches respectively. Hon. Matia Kasaija, Minister of Finance Planning and Economic Development however, was in attendance and delivered his opening remarks in person. There were several other speakers who are big in the business and knowledgeable of the Oil & Gas field who presented, as well as Bankers who are the chief financiers of these projects.

There were interactive sessions with an array of distinguished panellists, notably; Mr. Antonin Fotso, Senior Adviser for Africa -Total E&P, Jimmy Mugerwa, General Manager of Tullow Uganda Operations Pty Ltd, Ade Adeola-(Regional Head of Oil & Gas Africa) of Standard Chartered Bank, Mr. Keith Muhakanizi, PS Ministry of Finance, Planning & Economic Development, and Mr. Andrew Muwenda, CEO The Independent, among others. The one day convention was later closed by the Prime Minister Rt Hon. Rhakana Rugunda who was very impressed with the organisers of the convention as well as the participants. In his closing remarks he called upon foreign investors to invest in this sector, and for the Ugandan youth to get skilled training that will be required for the jobs that will come out of these projects.
