The Ministry is composed of a Ministry Headquarters, twenty-nine (29) Missions and one Consulate (Table 1). In addition to implementing national foreign policy objectives, the Ministry Headquarters also facilitates and guides Missions abroad in attaining specific targets in areas of investment, tourism, trade promotion and resource mobilization. At the political level the Ministry is headed by a Minister assisted by the 2 Ministers of State, responsible for International Affairs and Regional Cooperation. The technical team is led by a Permanent Secretary responsible for two Directorates, in addition to the departments of Finance and Administration, and of Protocol and Consular Services.

In protecting and promoting the above constitutional and national objectives, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs acts in concert and consultation with other key players and stakeholders in Government, so as to maximize benefits from the harmonization of Uganda's foreign and domestic objectives.

In the context of projecting Uganda's interests abroad, the Ministry creates an enabling environment for the promotion of trade, tourism, attraction of investment and guaranteeing of Uganda's security and other national needs and interests. In promoting and deepening linkages and mutually beneficial interdependencies with the rest of the world, Uganda focuses on the immediate neighborhood by promoting regional cooperation integration, peace and security in Eastern Africa and the extended neighborhood of the Great Lakes Region and Southern Africa. Uganda also pursues a multi-pronged policy of promoting bilateral and other ties with the major powers of the world and traditional friends and partners elsewhere, based on a domestic consensus and designed to serve the domestic interest. |
