CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE TO THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH SUDAN
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on behalf of the people of the Republic of Uganda, warmly congratulates the people and the Government of the Republic of South Sudan upon the successful declaration and attainment of independence on 9 July 2011, and cordially welcomes the newest country to the family of nations.
The Government of the Republic of Uganda acknowledges the successful conduct of the January 9, 2011 Referendum on self determination for Southern Sudan and affirms its recognition of the independence and sovereignty of the Republic of South Sudan as a state, an equal partner under International Law and a friend by the wishes of our two peoples.
The Government of Uganda commends both governments in Juba and Khartoum for their commitment to the ultimate implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) and appreciates the support extended to the parties by the international communities especially the United Nations, African Union and the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development.
The Republic of Uganda urges both the Republic of South Sudan and the Republic of Sudan to continue with their spirit of brotherhood and good neighbourliness in implementing the final aspects of the CPA and in amicably resolving any outstanding issues for greater regional stability, prosperity and development.
The Government of the Republic of Uganda extends a hand of friendship and cooperation to the Republic of South Sudan and looks forward to mutual cooperation between our two sister countries on a range of issues at bilateral and multilateral levels.
