DOMESTICATION OF AU AGENDA 2063 IN UGANDA - AU COMMISSION OFFICIALS MEET FOREIGN AFFAIRS OFFICIALS.

AU Commission experts who are visiting Uganda, met with the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Patrick Mugoya and senior officials at the MOFA Headquarters. The team was accompanied by Amb. Idule Amoko, Deputy Head of Mission, at the Uganda Mission to the AU in Addis Ababa.
 
The meeting was held against the backdrop of  decisions of the 24th Ordinary Session of AU Assembly of Heads of State and Government held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 30-31 January 2015, which adopted the Agenda 2063 Framework document and its popular version. The Assembly directed the AU Commission to work closely with Member States to prepare and submit the First 10 Year Implementation Plan (2013-2023) for approval by the meeting of the AU Policy Organs in June 2015.
 
The Assembly further requested Member States, as well as RECs to take measures to domesticate AU Agenda 2063 into their plans for development at national and regional levels. The First 10 Year Implementation Plan was submitted and approved by the 27th Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly in Johannesburg, South Africa in June, 2015.
 
The AU team, which has traversed 33 member states of the Union are in Kampala from the 25th - 28th April 2017 on a technical mission aimed at facilitating MDAs to align Uganda's National Development Plan to the AU Agenda 2063. During their stay they will be meeting with relevant stakeholders to discuss how best each State can carry out the domestication of AU Agenda 2063.
 
During their stay, the AU Commission team has held meetings with various Government Stakeholders in NDP II, to share their views of the domestication of Agenda 2063. They have also met with the Speaker of Parliament, Solicitor General and officials from National Planning Authority (NPA), Ministry of Finance, Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) respectively.
 
The Head of the African Union at the MOFA, Amb Simon Ajiku said, "The meeting is necessary for Uganda to implement the 10 Year Implementation Plan for Agenda 2063 and the visit by the technocrats is timely and welcome". He stated that the AU Commission officers were to learn that Uganda is fulfilling 75-76 (%) of what is mandated under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Agenda 2063.
 
Amb Ajiku stressed that MOFA is looking forward to a workshop to involve MDAs and create awareness of the requirements to implement Agenda 2063.
