Hon Okello Oryem, Minister of state of Foreign Affairs in-charge of International Affairs, told Her Excellency Sophie MAKAME, French Ambassador in Uganda that Uganda supports expeditious punishment of culprits of crimes in South Sudan. Minister Okello revealed this when he met the Ambassador in his office at MOFA on 15th April 2014.
He said President Museveni had told his counterpart President Salva Kir at State House Entebbe recently that he should isolate those who committed crimes and punish them expeditiously to stop impunity and show justice to their victims. He said that the government of South Sudan should do this to restore confidence among its people.
President Salva Kir of South Sudan recently visited Uganda to consult President Museveni on troops in his country. Uganda was supposed to withdraw her troops by 15th April 2014 due to budgetary constraints.
Minister Okello told his guest that President Museveni asked his counterpart to fast track the deployment of IGAD Force to allow UPDF withdrawal without leaving a vacuum. He said that President Museveni is concerned about stagnation of negotiations and the deployment of IGAG force.
