MOFA signs an MOU on political and diplomatic consultations with ministry of External Relations of Angola

Hon Sam Kutesa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Hon Georges Chicoti, Minister of External Relations of the Republic of Angola, signed an MOU on regular Political and Diplomatic Consultation, today 11th February 2014. The ceremony took place in Mweya VIP board room at MOFA headquarters.

Hon Kutesa told his guest that the agreement was an opportunity and a channel to deepen bilateral relations between the two countries. He congratulated Hon Chicoti for assuming the chair of executive council of Ministers of ICGLR.

The two also discussed a range of bilateral issues including regional issues, areas of cooperation and investment opportunities among others.

Hon Kutesa invited people from Angola to come and invest in Uganda as it is full of opportunities in the oil and gas sector, agro processing industry, mineral resource development and air service links among others.

Hon Kutesa called upon Angola to take the issue of peace and security in the region as priority during its tenure as chair of ICGLR. He underscored the threat by negative forces like ADF, LRA as well as conflicts in South Sudan and CAR.

On his part, Hon Chicoti thanked Uganda for the work well done on bringing peace in DRC. He pledged as chair of ICGLR to continue and consolidate the gains by Uganda in region. He pledged to work tirelessly for regional peace and stability and humanitarian situation.

The two agreed to sign a Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) agreement later this year which will be meeting twice a year for review.

The ceremony was attended by PS and other members of staff of MOFA as well as delegates from Angola.
